On 14th–15th October 2026, I Can South Sudan staff, together with members of the Board, convened for a two-day organizational policy review aimed at strengthening the organization’s operational systems and efficiency. The review highlighted the importance of having a strong policy framework to guide organizational operations, ensure compliance with donor requirements, and uphold global humanitarian standards.

The engagement was fruitful, providing staff with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the different organizational policies and gain a deeper understanding of their purpose and application in daily operations. Staff appreciated the initiative and the opportunity to actively participate in reviewing these vital documents, recognizing the importance of their involvement in strengthening institutional systems and promoting collective ownership of organizational policies.

During the review, the Board members emphasized that organizational policies are the legal arms of an institution, providing a foundation upon which decisions are made and serving as a sense of direction for effective governance and operations. The process was guided with support from experts from the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), who are on board with I Can South Sudan to support capacity building and strengthen the organization’s systems and operations.

As a refugee-led organization, I Can South Sudan appreciates the localization efforts and technical guidance extended to strengthen its institutional capacity. We remain open to receiving capacity-building support in all aspects as we continue striving for organizational growth, sustainability, and improved service delivery. We therefore call upon International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) and other humanitarian partners to continue prioritizing the localization agenda by investing in the capacity, systems, and leadership of refugee-led organizations to enable them to deliver effective, accountable, and sustainable humanitarian services.
