At I CAN South Sudan (ICSS), we believe that access to clean and sustainable energy is essential for improving livelihoods and protecting the environment. Our programs focus on promoting renewable energy solutions that empower vulnerable households while reducing reliance on harmful fossil fuels.

We provide solar lamps and solar systems to communities without reliable electricity, ensuring access to safe and affordable lighting, enabling children to study at night. This further supports small-scale businesses, and enhances household safety. By replacing kerosene lamps with solar alternatives, ICSS helps lower carbon emissions and improves public health by reducing exposure to toxic fumes.

To further promote energy efficiency and environmental conservation, ICSS constructs energy-saving stoves such as Lorena stoves, and promoting access to innovative energy solution in the displacement setting to products such as the solar irrigation water pump-up and the solar grinding and increasing refugees access to clean cook stoves products such as Eco-char, Eco wood and ECOCA at the household level. These improved stoves use significantly less firewood, helping families reduce energy costs and contributing to forest preservation. They also emit less smoke, minimizing indoor air pollution and improving the respiratory health of women and children. Alongside this, ICSS supports community-led reforestation by distributing tree seedlings and encouraging tree planting at both household and community levels. We also help maintain existing woodlots to ensure long-term access to sustainable firewood sources and to restore degraded ecosystems.

In addition, ICSS strengthens local resilience through agroforestry initiatives that integrate trees and crops for better land use. By providing farmers with agroforestry seeds and technical guidance, we help improve soil fertility, increase crop yields, and promote climate-smart agriculture. This approach not only supports food security but also enhances biodiversity and long-term environmental sustainability. Through these combined efforts, ICSS empowers communities to embrace renewable energy, protect natural resources, and create a cleaner, greener, and more resilient future for all.
