Exceptional Leadership Master Class 2026

As September Comes to a Near End, ICSS Marks a Profound Leadership Milestone

I CAN South Sudan (ICSS) is celebrating an important milestone in its organisational journey following the successful completion of the 2026 Exceptional Leadership Masterclass by Executive Director Stephen Wandu Bimo and Programme Manager Esther Atem. Organised by the Civil Society Academy International and delivered through two modules held in Nairobi and Addis Ababa, the Masterclass combined intensive learning, practical exercises, peer exchange, and individual coaching for civil society leaders. For ICSS, the milestone represents more than the completion of a training programme; it reflects a renewed commitment to reflective, accountable, people-centred leadership rooted in the communities the organisation serves.

More than a Certificate

The Masterclass provided an opportunity for ICSS leadership to pause, reflect, and examine the kind of organisation ICSS is becoming as its responsibilities continue to grow. The sessions explored self-leadership, team leadership, organisational leadership, communication, coaching, adaptive management, performance management, agile management systems, conflict resolution, and collective decision-making. These lessons reinforced the importance of listening carefully, building trust, developing people, encouraging shared ownership, and creating an organisational culture that supports learning, accountability, motivation, and professional growth.

Seeing ICSS Through a New Lens

The Masterclass also provided a practical framework for examining civil society organisations through four interconnected areas: purpose, culture, impact, and resources. These reflections come at an important time as ICSS continues to strengthen its governance, organisational strategy, internal systems, and programme quality. Going forward, ICSS is committed to translating the learning into practical organisational change by strengthening performance management and staff feedback, improving communication and collective decision-making, clarifying roles and internal processes, promoting learning and staff development, applying adaptive and agile management approaches, strengthening coaching, and maintaining its community-led identity as the organisation grows.

The Beginning of a Stronger Chapter

As ICSS enters this new chapter, the organisation recognises that the real value of the Masterclass will be demonstrated through how its leadership applies the learning in everyday organisational practice. The experience has reinforced the understanding that while an organisation may begin with passion, sustainable impact requires clear purpose, strong people, effective systems, continuous reflection, and disciplined leadership. ICSS therefore moves forward with a deeper commitment to organisational learning, stronger leadership practice, clearer management systems, and continued community-led transformation.
