Regional Stakeholder Workshop on Sustainable Energy Access in Arua

I CAN South Sudan Participates in Regional Stakeholder Workshop on Sustainable Energy Access in Arua

On 12th October 2026, I CAN South Sudan participated in the Regional Stakeholder Workshop for the Review and Update of the Sustainable Energy Response Plan for Refugees and Host Communities, held in Arua.

The workshop, organized by GIZ and spearheaded by Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), brought together key development partners, senior government officials, Refugee Welfare Council (RWC) representatives, and other stakeholders to discuss sustainable energy solutions for refugees and host communities.

The engagement featured lively discussions and passionate debates on the need to strengthen access to Productive Use of Energy (PUE) and Clean Cooking Solutions (CCS) technologies among refugees and host communities.

The discussions highlighted the challenges surrounding energy accessibility, affordability, sustainability, and the need for inclusive approaches that respond to the realities of displacement-affected communities.

For I CAN South Sudan, access to sustainable energy is not merely about electricity or cooking technologies; it is about creating opportunities for education, livelihoods, environmental protection, economic empowerment, and community self-reliance.

As a refugee-led organization, we believe that refugees and host communities must not only be beneficiaries of sustainable energy interventions but also active participants in designing, implementing, and sustaining these solutions.

We appreciate GIZ, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, and all participating stakeholders for creating this important platform for dialogue and collaboration.

Together, we can advance inclusive, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions that leave no one behind.
