About I CAN South Sudan
I CAN South Sudan (ICSS) is a multi-sector Non-Governmental Organization devoted to advancing the well-being of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Returnees and Refugees, with a special focus on vulnerable children and women. I CAN South Sudan is a Refugee-Led Organization registered in Uganda's Bidibidi Refugee Settlement in Yumbe District. The organization has expanded its services to South Sudan and is registered as a national organization and having coordination offices Juba, Ibba, Yambio, and Ezo.

With funding from COHERE, OXFAM & MERCY CORP, I CAN South Sudan is looking for a highly skilled, competent, proactive and self driven individual for the Position of Child Protection Officer to run these projects in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement.

The contract for this position is fix term/definite contract with possibility of extension for 2 years and beyond based on satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Job Description
I CAN South Sudan seek to recruit a Project Officer for Bidibidi Refugee Settlement Zone 1. With Supervision from the Program Manager, the successful candidate will lead multiple projects and will be responsible for planning, Financial Controls, timely and quality reporting, Logistical coordination and perform all other duty in line with their position

Duties and Responsibilities
Management
  • Facilitate coaching, mentoring and counseling sessions for staff within the humanitarian emergency response and social protection.
  • Provide guidance to humanitarian Emergency Response staff in child protection, planning and preparation of M&E documents.
  • Manage, supervise and build capacity of staff in project development, management and implementation especially in humanitarian emergency response, CiE and other related project activities.
 
Program planning and implementation
  • Monitor and review the child protection policy and procedures to ensure they remain current and fit for purpose.
  • Encourage good practice in the organization by promoting and championing the child protection policy and procedures.
  • Provide overall leadership in managing and coordinating the implementation of emergency response and child protection activities according to the respective projects’ implementation and organization standard
Community engagement
  • You will supervise the Child Protection Committees assigned to work for I CAN South Sudan and ensure that they give regular report
  • You shall establish good reporting and feedback channel for the community and ensure that the organization get all report and the report are shared with the relevant partner
  • Entrusted to build good relationship with children, parents and the organization in the entire community.
  • Educate parents/guardians and community on Child rights 
  • Shall answer all the equerries related to the child protection unit or matter relating to the child abuse in the community and the entire organization.
Technical and capacity building

  • You will develop policies, strategic activities and develop budget for every program in relations to children
  • Must have confidence and good judgment to manage situations relating to the poor conduct/behavior of others towards a child.
  • Develop relevant training to fulfill the role of Child Protection Officer in the organization.
  • providing technical assistance and guidance to mainstream protection across all the community-based mechanisms at the field level
Coordination and networking
  • Participate in the Child Protection and GBV Sector meetings
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of child protection by liaising with organizations working with children and attending relevant training or events
  • Where required liaise with Government, World Vision, UNCHR and UNICEF and ensure they have access to all necessary information.
  • Maintain the ability to build relationships with organization members, parents/careers, children
  • Have willingness to challenge opinion, where necessary, and to drive the child protection agenda.
Financial management
  • You work closely with Project Officer, Logistics, M&E and partially Finance Department report to the Child Protection Manager in Uganda.
  • Monitor and manage projects’ budgets in line with grants agreements and standards.
  • Risk management by monitoring, addressing and reporting any risks to management of program funds and budgets.
  • Ensure assets of the organization in the operations are safe and secure in line with projects’ grant regulations, MoUs and agreements.
  • Support audit processes in line with the projects’ audit regulations.
  • Perform any other duty as may be directed by the supervisor from time to time.
 
Qualification
  • Holds a Bachelor Degree in Child Protection, and Social Studies
  • At least 3 years working experience in same or similar position
  • Experience working in a remote Humanitarian Settings and with Refugees
Other Qualifications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in modern proposal writing
  • Excellent Report writing skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and good decision making
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects
  • Proficiency in computer skills

  • Good communication skills: ability to share information, collect feedback on changing priorities and procedures, give constructive criticism, speak clearly, writes effectively to persuade any situation, listens to others with interest to help with ideas and demonstrate the ability to build relationship with and outside the organization based on trust and professionalism
  • Ability to multi task: The ability to demonstrate interest in improving relevant skills, planning and organizing , setting clear achievable goals with project priorities, handle multiple tasks and assignments, prioritizing more important tasks and maintain a good sight on others, timely reporting any barriers to tasks completion immediately
  • Teamwork: Work in collaboration with others, delegate task and responsibilities, actively make team decisions in the organization to achieve project tasks that contribute to organization’s vision, Mission, and goal, welcome diversity and willing to embrace everyone regardless of who they are, willing to learn from others, accept criticism and open up to adjustment and able to handle working pressure and maintain same spirit of work
